Here Are Some Causes of Teeth Discoloration
Over the course of time, the appearance of our teeth can change. You have noticed that your teeth aren't quite as white as they've been in the past, leading you to wonder what happened. Is this discoloration because of an underlying medical condition, or is it something else?
Below are some of the most common reasons why your teeth may have become discolored.
The food you eat - Diet can be a factor in the color of your teeth, as some dark-colored foods or drinks can stain teeth. Coffee, tea, and wine are among the ones known for doing this.
Tobacco use - Smoking and chewing tobacco can cause teeth to become stained and discolored.
Medications - There are some types of medication that can have an effect on the color of your teeth, including some antibiotics.
Infection - If a person experiences an infection or disease when young enough that their permanent teeth are still forming, it can have an impact on the color of their teeth.
Trauma - If a tooth has been injured, it can take on a gray color.
Heredity - Some people have teeth that are more yellow in color simply because of their genetics, and not due to lifestyle choices.
Age - Over the course of our lives, the enamel, or outer layer of the teeth, can be slowly worn down. This makes the yellow dentin layer beneath it more visible, giving teeth a more yellow appearance.
Home care - How you care for your teeth at home can play a bit role in their appearance. Not removing foods that stain quickly enough or allowing plaque to build up will result in your teeth becoming discolored.
