Regular Toothbrush vs. Electric Toothbrush
The truth is, if you use a regular toothbrush for the proper amount of time and with the proper technique, an electric toothbrush has no advantage over a regular toothbrush. The American Dental Association (ADA) is in agreement with this statement. The ADA states that it is how long and how you brush that matters, not if you are using an electric vs. a regular toothbrush.
This being the case, there are groups of people who can still benefit from using an electric toothbrush.
The first group of people who will benefit from using an electric toothbrush are kids! Ask any adult with children, and more than likely they will admit that their child has bad brushing technique and habits. This means that an electric toothbrush will help these children still properly clean their teeth. For one, an electric toothbrush will make up for improper brushing technique. Secondly, kids are enamored by using an electric toothbrush, and it will help them brush their teeth for longer periods of time.
Another group of people who benefit from using an electric toothbrush are those with certain diseases or health impediments. People who have things like arthritis, gum disease, orthodontic brackets, coordination issues, diabetes, and more, all fit into this category. The reason for this, is that these types of issues and devices stop you from being able to properly remove plaque from your teeth.
