Continuing from our previous blog post, we will be going over several other foods which can help to enrich your general oral health.
Ideally, you really want to steer clear of food which combines high sugars, acid and stickiness. Whenever you eat food that is high in sugar and acid, you're not only feeding yourself, but the cavity inducing plaque that can create chaos in your mouth. The subsequent acids from the combination of sugars and plaque can lay siege to your teeth for up to TWENTY minutes after you are finished eating!
Cheese is a splendid supplier of calcium, and low in both sugar and acid. This makes it an excellent choice to promote general oral health. Additionally, cheese contains a protein known as casein, that is found in milk and is particularly beneficial in fortifying the exterior of your teeth.
Sugarless chewing gum brands like B-Fresh, Spry, Xponent, Xylichew and Trident all contain xylitol, a sweetening agent used in substitute for sugar. Bear in mind that not all sugarless gum include xylitol. Standing out from some other artificial sweeteners, xylitol blocks the bacteria in plaque from metabolizing sugar, behaving more along the lines of an "anti-sugar" than a sugar substitute. Regular sucrose will result in dental cavities and periodontal disease, while xylitol fights against them. Chewing gum in fact, helps to clear away bacteria and plaque from your teeth.
Tap water, most of the time, provides optimal levels of fluoride which helps to prevent tooth decay. The explanation for this is straightforward; fluoride helps to remineralize teeth, reversing the detrimental consequences of acid, which works away enamel. Almost all bottled water doesn't include adequate active fluoride to have any health benefit.
Pears help to increase saliva production, much like all high fiber containing fresh fruit. Pears are a terrific option, as they have a greater neutralizing effect on acid than other kinds of fruit, for example, apples, bananas, mandarins and pineapples.
Yogurt, like cheese, is generally an additional great source of casein, calcium and phosphates which help to remineralize teeth, the same as fluoride does. These facts make yogurt another great choice for defending against cavities.
