When the calendar turns to January, almost everyone makes their New Year’s resolution. Many people resolve to be healthier in the new year. With this in mind, Dr. Sachs wants to offer several tips to help you achieve your resolution.
1.) Build Relationships
Whether it be your college roommate or your high school BFF, chances are, you have fallen out of touch with someone (if not multiple people). There are studies that prove that people who have strong relationships with others live longer than those who don’t. In the spirit of this, reach out to someone who you need to catch up with. (If you haven’t been to the dentist in over 6 months, your dentist would be someone good to catch up with.)
2.) Limit your Caffeine and Sugar Intake
To no one’s surprise, both of these things in excess are not good for our health. Sugar can cause you to have energy highs and lows. People often find themselves having more energy after they cut back on their sugar intake. Additionally, caffeine can overstimulate you, and lead to an increase in anger and many other health problems.
3.) Eat Healthy
An interesting take on eating healthy, is to budget your food like you budget your money. Whether limiting calories in order to lose weight, or just to be healthy, try to spread your calorie intake out over the course of the day. If you splurge a little with your calories at lunch, cut back on them come dinner time.
HINT: If you fill half your plate up with vegetables, you will get full quicker and eat less calories.
Dr. Sachs hopes that the above tips can help you reach your new year’s goals and resolutions. One thing that is important to remember, is that your oral health is a critical starting point to being healthy. If you have stopped visiting the dentist twice per year, 2017 is a great time to restart. If you are looking for a new dentist, Dr. Sachs is always welcoming new patients.
